The amount of water used per person per day per household is in the range of an equivalent of 60 litres of waste water in a day. Assuming that there are several members of a household, one can imagine the volume of waste water per day per household. Combine these with the modern kind of estate buildings in which there are several households and each has several people in it! Then one realizes that the amount of waste water produced in a day can be astronomical. This scenario then needs a drainage system installation and maintenance.
Foundation drainage system installation
Most indoor drainage systems are in-built into most buildings’ architectural plans but we are capable of installing Peripheral foundation drainage systems.
- We survey the land around the building. There is danger to the foundation wherever the land slopes toward it.
- We lay out a path for your drainage pipe that cuts across the slope; it is best to wrap the trench in a "U" shape around the building, four to six feet away from the foundation. The trench should extend at one end to the lowest point on your property, and ideally should emerge from the side of a slope to ensure the best drainage. We mark the path of the trench with a can of spray paint.
- We excavate your trench to a width of six inches and depth of 24 inches.
- We check the depth of your trench using a level if the slope of your yard isn’t obvious. The trench needs to be sloped so as to carry water away from the foundation, which may mean digging it deeper at the far end.
- We compress the soil at the bottom of the trench by pounding it with the end of a 4-inch by 4-inch post. This will prevent loose dirt from clogging the drainage pipe.
- We add a layer of 1-inch washed gravel to the bottom of the trench; this layer should be about 2 inches thick. This will give water an easy path into the pipe.
- We unroll your drainage pipe and set it in the bottom of the trench, with the holes in the pipe facing downward. It is important that they face down so that they can start admitting water before it soaks all the way to the top of the pipe.
- We fill in the rest of the trench with 1-inch gravel until it reaches to within 1 inch of ground level. You then have the choice of covering it with sod or leaving the gravel exposed for slightly better drainage. If we do expose the gravel, we can always set decorative stones into it to make it look more attractive.
