Good Housekeeping - Prior to filling the silo or other storage structures we apply thorough special sanitation techniques. We apply the principle “NEVER ADD NEW GRAIN ONTO OLD GRAIN”. We also use special vacuum equipments to sanitate the storage structures. We take care to deal with the cracks and crevices. We always ascertain to check for grain that may have leaked out; if any is found, we deal with it accordingly. We deal with all holes in the bin so rodents and birds cannot get in. we also take care of the roof to avoid damage from changing weather conditions. We get rid of rodents using best practice and legal methods. We check moisture content in grains using Ministry of Agriculture approved methods before storing grain to avoid rotting, mold, fungi and grain insects hence avoiding aflatoxin poisoning.
Residual Sprays - After the structure and silo has been thoroughly cleaned and emptied, spray all inside surfaces with a environmentally friendly residual insecticide.
Empty Grain-silos and storage structures Fumigation - Prior to filling the grain silos and storage structures with grain and after the residual spray has been applied, fumigate them. We cover the outside aeration fans with material. We also deal with any openings, such as holes or tears in the walls. We use the PCPB recommended fumigants. These products are quite toxic. We have to have special detectors to determine ppm levels in the silos and storage structures prior to reentry.
Grain Protectants - Dry, insect-free small grain and shelled corn can be protected from most insect damage by using we approved organic insecticides. The grain protectant is applied to the grain before or during storage. We mix the recommended amounts.
